West Nile Virus Cases Rise Across Multiple States

Multiple U.S. states are reporting new cases and heightened risks of West Nile virus, a mosquito-borne disease. Maryland has confirmed its first human case of the year in Baltimore, while Dr. Anthony Fauci is recovering from the virus at home. South Carolina has reported a case in Rock Hill, the first in four years, prompting preventive measures. In Massachusetts, eight communities, including Boston, are now at high risk, with 262 virus-positive mosquito samples detected so far this year. Contra Costa County in California has also seen increased activity with infected mosquitoes and a recent human fatality. Health officials across these regions are urging the public to take precautions such as using insect repellents, eliminating standing water, and wearing protective clothing.
