Daytime Fireball Meteor Over New York City
A rare daylight fireball meteor soared over New York City on Tuesday morning, catching the attention of numerous eyewitnesses across the northeastern U.S. The meteor, traveling at speeds up to 38,000 miles per hour, disintegrated approximately 29 miles above midtown Manhattan. Reports indicate that the meteor’s passage was accompanied by loud booms and ground shaking, though NASA has not confirmed these were entirely caused by the meteor, citing potential military activity in the area. Videos from New Jersey and Connecticut captured the event, and over 40 eyewitnesses submitted reports to the American Meteor Society. NASA emphasized that such small meteors are typically not tracked until they enter the atmosphere and confirmed that no meteorites reached the ground.
