Modi Encourages Indian Athletes Ahead of Paris Paralympics
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his best wishes to India's largest-ever contingent for the Paris Paralympics, which begins on August 28, with a record 84 athletes competing across 12 sports, a notable increase from the 54 athletes sent to Tokyo 2020. During a video call, Modi emphasized the importance of their journey for both the athletes and the nation, stating that 'the country’s pride is linked to your presence in Paris.' Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, joined Modi in expressing confidence in the athletes, highlighting their past achievements and the determination shown in overcoming obstacles. This year, the Indian team will compete in new sports such as para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo. Modi's encouragement aims to boost the morale of athletes, particularly the 50% who are participating in the Paralympics for the first time. The nation is looking forward to the athletes' performance, hoping for a repeat of their success from previous competitions.
