Heavy Rain Closes Schools, Causes Fatalities in India
Severe weather conditions have led to school closures and disruptions across multiple cities in India. In Maharashtra, heavy rains prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red alerts for Mumbai, Pune, Palghar, Thane, and Raigad, resulting in significant flooding, casualties, and evacuations. In Pune, heavy rains caused landslides and electrocution incidents, killing at least six people. Mumbai experienced significant airport disruptions, including flight cancellations and diversions. Dehradun also faced school closures due to anticipated heavy rainfall. Despite the heavy rains, the BMC announced that schools in Mumbai would operate normally on July 26, but Raigad schools remain closed due to flood risks.
