Tropical Storm Yagi Leaves 11 Dead in Philippines
Tropical Storm Yagi, locally known as Enteng, has wreaked havoc across the Philippines, resulting in at least 14 fatalities and prompting the suspension of classes and government work in Metro Manila. The storm, which made landfall in Casiguran, Aurora, is moving northwest with sustained winds of 85 km/h and is expected to strengthen further before exiting toward southern China. The majority of deaths were caused by landslides and drownings, with notable incidents reported in Antipolo City and Naga. Authorities have raised storm warnings across Luzon, the country's most populous region, and evacuated residents near the Marikina River due to rising water levels. The storm has also disrupted air and sea travel, leaving hundreds stranded at various ports. The Philippines, prone to frequent tropical cyclones, experiences approximately 20 storms each year, with Yagi being the fifth this season.
