Las Vegas Aces lawsuit
WNBA forward Dearica Hamby has filed a federal lawsuit against the league and her former team, the Las Vegas Aces, alleging discrimination and retaliation related to her pregnancy. The lawsuit claims that Hamby faced intimidation and was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in January 2023 after revealing her pregnancy, which she discovered shortly after signing a contract extension with the Aces. Hamby alleges that the team failed to honor commitments regarding her child’s tuition and removed her from team housing without explanation. The WNBA previously conducted an investigation that resulted in a two-game suspension for Aces coach Becky Hammon, but Hamby asserts this was insufficient. The Aces and Hammon have denied the allegations, maintaining that the trade was purely for strategic reasons. Hamby's legal filing follows a complaint made to the EEOC last year, which ultimately granted her the right to sue.
