Gujarat Floods Result in 26 Deaths
Gujarat is currently facing severe flooding due to persistent heavy rainfall, with the death toll rising to 26 in just three days, including 19 fatalities reported recently. Approximately 17,800 people have been evacuated from affected areas, with Vadodara experiencing significant inundation as the Vishwamitri River overflowed. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for extremely heavy rains in the Saurashtra region, predicting continued adverse weather conditions. Rescue operations are ongoing, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and military personnel to assist those stranded. Prime Minister Modi has spoken with Chief Minister Patel, assuring support from the central government to manage the crisis. In total, 140 reservoirs and dams are currently above danger levels, exacerbating the flooding conditions.
