Ondo State Local Government Election Rescheduled

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has rescheduled the local government elections to January 18, 2025, following a series of previous postponements. Initially set for December 16, 2023, the elections faced several delays, including a shift to February 17, then to July 13, before being postponed indefinitely. ODIEC Chairman Dr. Joseph Aremo stated that the rescheduling was due to political parties' non-compliance with electoral guidelines, not a cancellation. He emphasized the commission's commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, and outlined a timeline for candidate validations and campaign activities. Key dates include the validation of candidates from November 25 to December 7, with campaign periods commencing December 23 and concluding January 16, 2025. Mr. Olaoluwa Adesanya, Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, expressed confidence in the commission's preparedness for the upcoming elections.
