Wiffen Shines at Paris Olympics with Multiple Medals

Irish swimmer Daniel Wiffen, who won gold in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 1500m freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics, previously appeared as an extra in the famous 'Red Wedding' scene of 'Game of Thrones.' Wiffen's achievements mark him as the first Irish swimmer to win an Olympic gold medal in 28 years and the first to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games. In marathon swimming, Wiffen finished 18th in the men's 10km event. Meanwhile, Team Ireland's women's 4x400m relay team qualified for the final, while Mark English did not advance in the 800m semi-final and Sarah Lavin's 100m hurdles semi-final is yet to occur. Rhasidat Adeleke is set to compete in the women's 400m final, and Kate O’Connor continues her heptathlon campaign in 19th place.
