Kenyan Police Salaries in Haiti Set to Disburse
The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) has confirmed that Kenyan police officers in Haiti will receive their overdue salaries within the week, following two months of delayed payments. This situation arose as the officers, deployed in June and July 2024 to assist with security in Haiti, expressed frustration about the lack of supplemental pay, which is crucial as families back home struggle with financial burdens. MSSM assured that an 'elaborate mechanism' has been established to ensure timely payments in the future. In addition to their National Police Service salaries, each officer is expected to receive a supplement of Ksh100,000 for their deployment. The mission is funded largely by the United States and supported by voluntary donations from various donor countries. Overall, the MSSM aims to enhance the welfare of its officers while addressing the severe gang violence and instability in Haiti.
