Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada Case May Move to Brooklyn
The U.S. federal prosecutors have filed a request to move Mexican drug lord Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada's case from Texas to Brooklyn, where he would face charges similar to those against his co-founder Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán. Zambada, who is 76 years old, was arrested alongside Guzmán's son, Joaquín Guzmán López, under dramatic circumstances which he claims involved kidnapping. He is currently charged with serious offenses including racketeering conspiracy and drug conspiracy in Texas, and is facing additional charges in Brooklyn related to running a continuing criminal enterprise and drug trafficking. The move aims to consolidate his legal proceedings, as he would first stand trial in New York before returning to Texas for other charges. The Mexican government is also seeking information regarding the flight that brought Zambada and Guzmán to the U.S. amid concerns of potential power struggles back in Mexico. Zambada, who has pleaded not guilty, represents a significant figure in the Sinaloa cartel, known for being more involved in the cartel's operations than the flamboyant Guzmán.
