Mexican drug lord kidnapped
Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, a leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, claims he was ambushed and forcibly taken to the U.S. while believing he was attending a meeting with local politicians, including Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya. In a letter released by his lawyer, Zambada details how he was hooded, handcuffed, and taken by pickup truck to a private plane on July 25, alongside Joaquín Guzmán López, the son of imprisoned drug kingpin Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán. The U.S. ambassador to Mexico confirmed that Zambada was brought to Texas against his will. These statements have raised questions about potential connections between drug traffickers and local politicians, prompting President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to request further information. Zambada, who was a U.S. fugitive for years, disputes claims that he voluntarily turned himself in and insists he was kidnapped. He also expressed intentions to clarify what he describes as inaccurate reports surrounding his arrest and circumstances leading to his extradition.
