Olyslagers, Patterson Medal in Women's High Jump

At the Paris Olympics, Australians Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson made history by winning silver and bronze medals in the women's high jump, marking the first time in 56 years that two Australians have medaled in the same Olympic athletics event. Olyslagers secured silver by clearing 2.00m on her third attempt but lost the gold on countback to Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who set a world record at 2.10m earlier this year. Patterson tied for bronze with Iryna Gerashchenko after both cleared 1.95m. The competition intensified when both Olyslagers and Mahuchikh missed their initial attempts at 2.02m, ultimately handing Mahuchikh the gold. This achievement highlights the dominance of Australian and Ukrainian athletes in women's high jump, with both nations showcasing their talents on the global stage. Additionally, Australian Reece Holder impressed in the men's 400m heats, advancing to the semifinals with a personal best time of 44.53 seconds.
