Judge Denies Jontay Porter's Request to Play in Greece
A federal judge has denied Jontay Porter's request to modify his bond conditions to allow him to play professional basketball in Greece while awaiting sentencing for a betting scandal. Porter, who is banned for life from the NBA for conspiring with gamblers and underperforming in games, sought permission to regain his passport and move to Patras to play for Promitheas BC. Both the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Pretrial Services Office did not oppose the request. However, Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall rejected it, emphasizing the seriousness of his crime. Porter, who has pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy, faces 41-51 months in prison with sentencing set for December 18.
