Jonathan Wheatley Appointed Audi F1 Team Principal
Jonathan Wheatley, the Sporting Director of Red Bull Racing, has been appointed as the Team Principal for Audi's upcoming Formula 1 team, set to debut in 2026 following Audi's acquisition of Sauber. Wheatley has had a successful 18-year tenure at Red Bull, contributing to six Constructors' titles and seven Drivers' championships, and will remain with Red Bull until the end of the 2024 season before entering a period of gardening leave. Audi has also brought on Mattia Binotto, former Ferrari team principal, as Chief Operating Officer to help establish their new F1 team. The management changes at Audi come after the recent departures of other senior figures, including Andreas Seidl. Wheatley expressed excitement about his new role, while Red Bull's Christian Horner praised his significant contributions to the team's history. The transition marks a pivotal moment for both Audi and Wheatley as they prepare for the competitive landscape of Formula 1.
