In the first set, the Spaniards broke their opponents to take control, but the Dutch fought back in the second set, forcing a tiebreaker which they won. Ultimately, Nadal and Alcaraz dominated the super tiebreak, showcasing their impressive synergy. In addition to their doubles success, Alcaraz reached the men's singles quarter-finals with a straight-set win over Roman Safiullin, continuing his pursuit of an Olympic medal. At just 21 years old, Alcaraz has become the youngest player since Novak Djokovic in 2008 to reach this stage in men's singles. The Spanish duo will next face American fourth seeds Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek.
