Michigan State Wins Season Opener Against FAU
In his debut as head coach, Jonathan Smith led Michigan State to a narrow 16-10 victory over Florida Atlantic, improving the Spartans to 1-0 in the season opener. The game saw Michigan State build a 16-0 lead at halftime, but they struggled offensively in the second half, with quarterback Aidan Chiles throwing two interceptions and fumbling once, finishing with 114 passing yards. Running back Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams was a standout performer, rushing for 101 yards and a touchdown. The Spartans were buoyed by strong defensive plays, including a safety from defensive end D'Quan Douse. Florida Atlantic's Cam Fancher also faced challenges, throwing two interceptions while managing to score a touchdown. Michigan State will next face Maryland in their Big Ten opener on September 7.
