Indian High Commissioner Raises Security Concerns in Bangladesh

Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met with Bangladesh's interim Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to discuss mutual concerns, particularly regarding the security of Indian diplomatic establishments in Bangladesh amid ongoing unrest. Verma emphasized the importance of heightened security for these missions and reaffirmed India's commitment to a prosperous and stable Bangladesh. The Chief Adviser's press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, noted that security measures in Dhaka's diplomatic zone have been intensified in response. Additionally, discussions included the ongoing flood situation and river water sharing issues, aligning with greater regional cooperation through BIMSTEC and SAARC. The meeting comes in the wake of political turmoil following the resignation of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, raising questions about stability in the country. No discussions were reported regarding the trial or repatriation of Hasina.
