Georgia Governor on Hurricane Debby

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and activated up to 2,000 National Guard troops to assist with response efforts as Tropical Storm Debby moves through the state, following its landfall in Florida. The storm, initially a Category 1 hurricane, is now expected to bring heavy rain and potential flooding to southeastern Georgia, particularly areas like Savannah and Brunswick. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is also preparing rescue teams and resources to respond to damage and assist residents. Kemp emphasized the state's commitment to supporting those affected, stating, 'We will continue monitoring the storm's path to meet the needs of Georgians.' The storm is forecasted to bring significant rainfall, with totals potentially reaching 12-24 inches in some areas. A curfew has been established in Savannah from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for public safety.
