US figure skaters in Paris
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially confirmed the U.S. figure skating team as gold medalists from the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, following the disqualification of Russian skater Kamila Valieva due to a doping violation. This ruling clears the way for the U.S. team to receive their medals at a special ceremony during the Paris Summer Olympics, tentatively scheduled for August 7. The decision comes after years of appeals from the Russian Olympic Committee, which were ultimately dismissed by CAS. The U.S. team, which includes Nathan Chen and Madison Chock, initially left Beijing without medals due to the ongoing doping investigation. The International Olympic Committee plans to honor these athletes in a ceremony aimed at celebrating those whose standings have been upgraded following doping resolutions. Meanwhile, Canada awaits a separate CAS decision regarding its appeal to potentially move from fourth to third place in the team event.
