Justice Ritu Bahri Appointed as Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court

Ritu Bahri has become the first woman Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, succeeding Vipin Sanghi, and was sworn in by Governor Gurmit Singh. She was previously a judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and has come from a family of lawyers, including a grandfather who was a legislator. Bahri was recommended for the position by the Supreme Court collegium and has served in several legal positions prior to her elevation as Chief Justice. Her appointment as Chief Justice is notable in light of recent appointments of women to other high-profile positions in the state.
