Starlink Launches Internet Service in Botswana

Starlink has officially launched its satellite internet service in Botswana, marking its entry as the sixth country in Southern Africa to adopt the service. The launch follows a series of regulatory engagements and a significant meeting between the Botswana president and Starlink executives that led to the approval of Starlink's license in May 2024. In Botswana, the hardware costs approximately $363, with a monthly subscription fee of $51, reflecting an increase in prices across the continent. Meanwhile, Starlink is preparing for a potential launch in Zimbabwe by September 1, even as the local regulator has not yet approved its application. Additionally, Starlink has commenced operations in South Sudan and is set to begin service in Ghana by the end of August 2024, expanding its footprint across Africa and aiming to improve internet accessibility in these regions.
