Olympic road race

Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel made history by becoming the first male rider to win both the Olympic road race and time trial in the same Games, achieving this remarkable feat at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Evenepoel faced a mechanical issue late in the 273km race but managed to quickly switch bikes and maintained his lead to finish in a time of 6:19:34. He celebrated his victory with the Eiffel Tower in the background, having left his nearest competitors, Valentin Madouas and Christophe Laporte of France, trailing behind for silver and bronze, respectively. The race, which began with 90 riders, showcased Evenepoel's dominance, especially during the challenging climbs of Montmartre. His victory capped an impressive few weeks that included a third-place finish in the Tour de France and was marked as a significant moment for French cycling, with their first men's Olympic road race medals in 68 years. Ireland's Ben Healy also performed admirably, finishing 10th after leading portions of the race.
