Harris Proposes Broad Economic Measures

Vice President Kamala Harris has proposed a series of economic measures aimed at reducing the cost of living, including a federal ban on price gouging in the food industry, tax breaks for families, and down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers. While Harris argues these measures will help middle- and lower-income Americans, some economists, including Jason Furman and Gavin Roberts, caution that anti-price gouging laws could backfire by discouraging market competition and inadvertently harming consumers. Former President Donald Trump has criticized Harris's proposals as ineffective and equated them to price fixing. Harris also aims to expand the child tax credit and the earned income tax credit, and lower health insurance premiums through the Affordable Care Act.
