Bihar Sports Academy and University Inaugurated
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the State Sports Academy (SSA) and Bihar Sports University (BSU) in Rajgir on National Sports Day, marking a significant investment of approximately ₹750 crore for a 90-acre facility. The SSA features an international cricket stadium and the state's first astro-turf hockey stadium, accommodating over 20 sports disciplines. The SSA will host the Women's Asian Champions Trophy from November 11 to November 20, 2024, and includes plans for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various sports-related fields. During the inauguration, nine international athletes from Bihar were honored, and an exhibition match was held featuring the Asian Games-winning Indian women’s hockey team. The academy aims to provide world-class training and facilities for athletes, including residential options and scientific training methods. The BSU will operate from the same campus, focusing on sports education and research.
