Hurricane Debby damages Georgia
Tropical Storm Debby has caused significant flooding and damage across southern Georgia and parts of Florida. In Shore Acres, St. Pete residents are once again dealing with rising waters, as Mayor Ken Welch noted that infrastructure improvements have helped but more investment is necessary. Georgia's Governor Brian Kemp declared a State of Emergency as the storm approaches, with farmers expressing concern over the potential impact of up to 20 inches of rain on their crops. In South Georgia, power outages and downed trees have been reported, with some areas experiencing severe disruptions. Debby made landfall in Florida with sustained winds of 80 mph, causing flooding and minor damage in places like Ocala. Farmers, who have already faced challenges from previous storms, are particularly anxious about the effects on their livelihoods as the storm progresses.
