Kanwariyas Assault E-Rickshaw Driver in Uttarakhand

In Haridwar's Manglaur area, an e-rickshaw driver named Sanjay Kumar was assaulted by a group of 'kanwariyas' after his vehicle accidentally collided with one of them during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. Despite the fact that neither the pilgrim nor their sacred kanwar was harmed, the group attacked Kumar with sticks and rods, vandalizing his e-rickshaw in the process. Police intervened but were unable to deter the kanwariyas, leading to Kumar being hospitalized for his injuries. A case has been registered against the unidentified attackers, with ongoing efforts by authorities to identify those responsible. This incident is part of a troubling pattern of violence by kanwariyas, as similar incidents have been reported in other regions such as Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee, where pilgrims reacted violently to perceived damage to their sacred items. Local officials are urging pilgrims to report any grievances to the police to prevent such confrontations.
