Yankees, Angels in doubleheader
The New York Yankees secured a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in the first game of a rain-soaked doubleheader on Wednesday, extending their winning streak to eight out of nine games. Rookie pitcher Luis Gil delivered a strong performance, allowing no runs over five innings despite walking five batters and throwing a career-high 107 pitches. The Yankees' offense was led by Austin Wells, Alex Verdugo, and Aaron Judge, each contributing key hits, including a solo home run from Oswaldo Cabrera. The Angels finally scored with a two-run homer in the seventh, but it was too late to change the outcome. As of this win, the Yankees hold the best record in Major League Baseball at 68-46. The second game of the doubleheader was set to feature rookie Will Warren on the mound for the Yankees.
