Investigator Wayne David Dies in Shooting Incident
Investigator Wayne David of the Washington, D.C., police department tragically died on Wednesday after being accidentally shot while attempting to retrieve a firearm from a storm drain. The incident followed a police chase where a suspect, who had exited a suspicious vehicle, discarded the gun in the drain and fled on a motorcycle. David, a decorated officer with over 25 years of service and part of the Violent Crimes Suppression Division, was struck by the firearm when it discharged unexpectedly. Despite immediate medical assistance and transportation to a hospital, David succumbed to his injuries. The suspect remains at large, and authorities have released surveillance images in an effort to locate him. David is remembered for his dedication, having recovered hundreds of guns during his career, and is survived by his children, girlfriend, and family.
