Huw Edwards honorary degree
Huw Edwards, the former BBC news presenter, is facing significant repercussions following his guilty plea to charges of viewing indecent images of children, including some as young as seven. York St John University and several other institutions, including Cardiff University and Bangor University, are reviewing or rescinding honorary degrees and titles previously awarded to him. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) is also considering stripping Edwards of seven awards due to the severity of his crimes, which have been described as 'abhorrent'. Following his arrest in November, Edwards continued to receive a salary of over £475,000 until his resignation in April, prompting scrutiny of BBC director-general Tim Davie's decisions. The BBC has begun removing Edwards' footage from its iPlayer archive while balancing the historical significance of his work. His sentencing is scheduled for September 16, and he could face up to 10 years in prison.
