This sale marks the highest price ever fetched for a sports locker and the third-most expensive Bryant memorabilia, behind only a rookie jersey ($3.69 million) and an MVP season jersey ($5.6 million). The locker was nearly lost during 2018 renovations but was saved by a maintenance worker and later sold to a private collector. The final auction price surged from an initial $750,000 in the last 20 minutes due to intense bidding. Sotheby's emphasized the locker’s significance as a relic of one of basketball's most iconic figures, highlighting Bryant's enduring legacy. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.
