Despite same-sex relations being illegal in Cameroon, she hopes her revelation will inspire others and lead to a change in anti-gay laws. Biya expressed dissatisfaction with the existing law, calling it unfair and advocating for its amendment to eliminate the prison sentence. Her family, including President Paul Biya and First Lady Chantal Biya, reacted negatively, urging her to delete the post, resulting in silence between them. Brenda, a musician residing abroad, revealed her relationship of 8 months with Valença and shared her desire to support those suffering due to their sexual orientation. While receiving both support and criticism, her disclosure has been hailed by rights groups as a bold step towards challenging discriminatory laws in Cameroon.
