Jordan Chiles loses
Jordan Chiles has announced a break from social media following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which voided an appeal that had elevated her to bronze in the women's floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Initially awarded a score of 13.666, an appeal by her coach added 0.1 to her score, placing her above Romanian gymnasts Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea. However, the appeal was submitted four seconds late, leading CAS to restore the original scoring and rankings, which placed Chiles in fifth and reinstated Barbosu as the bronze medalist. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) will finalize the medal allocation but has left the decision regarding Chiles' medal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Chiles expressed her distress on Instagram, stating she was 'heartbroken' and prioritizing her mental health. This incident has sparked controversy and calls for a review of the gymnastics scoring processes.
