Salim Hoss passes away
Former Lebanese Prime Minister Salim Al-Hoss passed away on Sunday at the age of 94, as announced by caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who referred to him as the 'conscience of Lebanon'. Al-Hoss's death comes at a particularly fraught time for the country, which faces the dual threats of an ongoing economic crisis and escalating violence with Israel, largely instigated by Hezbollah's attacks following the recent conflict in Gaza. During his career, Al-Hoss served multiple terms as Prime Minister, particularly during the Lebanese Civil War, and was respected for his technocratic approach and commitment to public service. He was born in 1929 and held advanced degrees in economics, contributing significantly to Lebanon's governance and economic policy. His legacy is marked by a dedication to the welfare of citizens and a deep understanding of the complexities of Lebanese politics. Mikati emphasized that Al-Hoss's wisdom and management skills are sorely missed during this critical juncture for Lebanon.
