Government Team Assessing Gujarat Flood Damage

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has dispatched an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to assess the damage caused by heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in Gujarat. Led by the Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the team will evaluate the worst-affected districts following the severe rainfall between August 25 and 30, which resulted from a deep depression over Gujarat and Rajasthan. The floods caused significant loss of life, livestock, and property, severely impacting farmers and residents in low-lying areas. Other states, including Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, have also been affected by heavy rainfall, and the MHA may send IMCTs to these regions if necessary. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has emphasized the Central government's commitment to providing all possible assistance to the affected states and instructed local authorities in Gujarat to take immediate measures to restore normalcy and prevent disease outbreaks.
