Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lead a Karnataka Congress protest in New Delhi on February 7, to challenge the perceived financial injustices faced by the state, including the delayed release of drought relief funds and denial of clearances for irrigation projects. The state has experienced a loss of INR73,593cr during the 15th Finance Commission, with the percentage of total tax collections allocated to Karnataka falling from 4.71% to 3.64%. Despite contributing INR4.30 lakh crore per year in taxes, the state only receives 12-13% of its share from the central government. The protest, which will have participation from all the legislators, has been criticized by BJP general secretary Sunilkumar as a diversion from controversial remarks made by Congress MP DK Suresh.
