Charges for Golden Gate Bridge Protesters

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has charged 26 anti-Israel protesters for blocking traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge on April 15, causing significant disruptions. Eight individuals face felony conspiracy charges while the remaining 18 are charged with misdemeanor conspiracy, alongside other charges such as false imprisonment and unlawful assembly. The protest, aimed at denouncing US support for Israel's actions in Gaza, trapped hundreds of motorists for hours, including a surgeon who had to reschedule surgeries and parents with children in need. Jenkins emphasized that while free speech is protected, public safety cannot be compromised. The UN has condemned recent Israeli airstrikes on schools in Gaza, noting the high civilian toll. The protesters must surrender to authorities by Monday.
