Judge Dismisses Most of Mexico's Gun Lawsuit

A U.S. judge has dismissed most of Mexico's $10 billion lawsuit against American gun manufacturers, which claimed that the companies were responsible for the trafficking of firearms fueling violence in Mexico. U.S. District Judge Dennis Saylor dismissed claims against six of the eight companies, citing insufficient jurisdictional evidence and the companies' weak connection to Massachusetts, where the case was filed. The remaining defendants, Smith & Wesson Brands and Witmer Public Safety Group, are still under scrutiny. Mexico's foreign ministry expressed disappointment and is considering an appeal, arguing that the influx of U.S. firearms has exacerbated crime and violence in the country. The lawsuit highlighted that over 500,000 firearms are trafficked annually into Mexico, with a significant percentage produced by the companies sued. The gun manufacturers maintain that Mexico cannot link their actions to the violence experienced in the country.
