Eddie Duran Denied Bond, Charged with Manslaughter

Former Okaloosa County deputy Eddie Duran, 38, has been denied bond and charged with manslaughter for the fatal shooting of U.S. Air Force senior airman Roger Fortson, 23, on May 3. Duran responded to a false domestic disturbance call at Fortson's Fort Walton Beach apartment, where Fortson answered the door holding a gun pointed at the ground. Body camera footage shows Duran shooting Fortson multiple times within seconds of the door opening, despite Fortson not making any hostile movements. Duran turned himself in and is being held without bond until his next court appearance. Okaloosa Sheriff Eric Aden fired Duran after an internal investigation found that Duran's life was not in danger during the incident.
