Detroit Mayor Supports Kamala Harris Campaign

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is actively campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris, recognizing the importance of his predominantly Black city's support in the upcoming presidential election. As part of this effort, Harris will visit Detroit for Labor Day events alongside Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Duggan, who is also being considered as a potential candidate for Michigan governor, emphasizes the significance of mobilizing voters, especially in a key battleground state where Trump previously won by a narrow margin in 2016 but lost in 2020. Detroit is a crucial Democratic stronghold, with expected voter turnout exceeding 50% in the general election. Duggan endorsed Harris after Biden exited the race, and a recent rally in the area attracted 15,000 attendees. City Clerk Janice Winfrey indicated that over 55% of registered voters in Detroit are likely to participate in the November election.
