The Sri Lankan navy has detained multiple groups of Tamil Nadu fishermen for allegedly poaching in Sri Lankan waters, including eight fishermen recently and 11 earlier in the week. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has expressed 'grave concern' over these recurring incidents, affecting 324 fishermen and 44 boats this year. Stalin has called for urgent diplomatic intervention from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to secure the release of the detained fishermen and their boats. Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan court released seven previously detained fishermen but sentenced two boat drivers to extended prison terms. Additionally, the Sri Lankan navy rescued two fishermen after an unregistered trawler capsized in Indian waters, though two crew members remain missing.
