Panda cubs born in Hong Kong

Ying Ying, a giant panda at Ocean Park in Hong Kong, made history by giving birth to twins just a day before her 19th birthday, becoming the world's oldest first-time giant panda mother. This rare event comes after a decade-long struggle with multiple phantom pregnancies and unsuccessful mating attempts with her partner, Le Le. The twins, one male and one female, were conceived naturally and are currently receiving intensive care, as they are described as 'very fragile' following their birth. The successful delivery is viewed as a significant achievement for panda conservation efforts, highlighting the challenges of breeding these animals due to their short fertility windows. With the birth of these cubs, Ying Ying and Le Le continue to represent China's soft power diplomacy, as they were a gift from the central government to Hong Kong in 2007. The twins will be kept out of public view for a few months until they stabilize and can make their debut.
