Dolphins Release Mike White, Skylar Thompson Named Backup

White's inconsistent performance during the preseason, where he completed only 20 of 43 passes for 179 yards, led to his dismissal, freeing up $3.5 million in cap space for the Dolphins. Thompson's standout performance in the preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns, solidified his position as the No. 2 quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa. Coach Mike McDaniel praised Thompson's growth and ability to lead the offense effectively. White, who signed a two-year deal last offseason, will now have the option to sign with any NFL team or potentially return to the Dolphins as part of the practice squad. The Dolphins are expected to sign another quarterback to support Thompson as the season approaches.
