West Bengal to Pay 21 Lakh MGNREGA Workers by Feb 21

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Saturday that the state government will pay 21 lakh MGNREGA workers their pending wages by February 21, 2022, following a protest against the Centre's delay. The Centre had alleged that West Bengal violated the implementation rules of the jobs scheme, withholding funds. Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December to discuss the state's outstanding payments. She also launched an attack on the BJP, promising to fight for the people and vowing to continue the fight against the Centre until the dues are cleared.
