UK Reiterates Support for Bangladesh Interim Government

The UK has expressed its support for Bangladesh's interim government, led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, following a meeting between British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke and Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain. Cooke emphasized the UK’s commitment to helping the interim government restore peace and order, ensure accountability, and promote a democratic future for the Bangladeshi people. The discussions also highlighted the enduring relationship between Bangladesh and the UK, marked by deep people-to-people ties and shared Commonwealth values. Cooke noted the UK's sadness over recent violence and loss of life in Bangladesh, while recognizing the bravery of those advocating for change through peaceful protests. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy reiterated the UK’s stance, stating that the people of Bangladesh deserve a peaceful and inclusive democratic future.
