LA Homelessness Decreases for First Time in Six Years

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) announced a slight decline in homelessness for the first time in six years. The 2024 Homeless Point-In-Time Count revealed a 0.3% decrease in Los Angeles County and a 2.2% decrease in the city. Notably, unsheltered homelessness in the city dropped by 10%, attributed to increased investments in shelters and housing. Officials, including Mayor Karen Bass, expressed cautious optimism, citing unprecedented policy alignment and investments. Despite the positive trend, experts warn that more affordable housing is necessary for sustained progress. The count was conducted over three days in January by hundreds of volunteers.
