Dexcom Launches Over-the-Counter Glucose Monitor

Dexcom has launched Stelo, the first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor (CGM) approved by the FDA, now available for purchase in the U.S. Stelo is designed for adults with Type 2 diabetes who do not use insulin, as well as individuals with prediabetes. Priced at $99 for a two-sensor pack, it can be purchased outright or through a subscription service that lowers the monthly cost to $89. The device offers a 15-day wear time and connects to a smartphone app for real-time glucose monitoring, providing insights to help users manage their health. However, it is not suitable for individuals with problematic low blood sugar levels, as it does not alert users to hypoglycemia. This launch signifies Dexcom's entry into the prediabetes market, targeting over 125 million Americans who could benefit from such technology.
