Rumpke Opens $100 Million Recycling Facility in Ohio

Rumpke Waste & Recycling has inaugurated the Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center in Columbus, Ohio, touted as North America's largest and most technologically advanced recycling facility, with a price tag of $100 million. The 226,000-square-foot center can process up to 250,000 tons of material annually, with a processing speed of 60 tons per hour, significantly enhancing recycling capacity for over 50 Ohio counties. Equipped with cutting-edge technology including 19 optic sorters and artificial intelligence, the facility aims for a material recovery rate of 98%. Additionally, it features a career center and a 3,000-square-foot education center developed in collaboration with COSI, focusing on public education about recycling. Rumpke President Andrew Rumpke emphasized the facility’s role in supporting the local circular economy and meeting the projected growth of Columbus’s population, expected to exceed 3 million in the coming years. The design anticipates future upgrades to adapt to evolving recycling technologies.
