Man Arrested for Berkeley Shelter Murder
Berkeley police have arrested 62-year-old Mark Christopher Dowling in connection with the shooting death of a 37-year-old man at the Ursula Sherman Village homeless shelter in West Berkeley. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, and Dowling was apprehended less than 24 hours later near Fourth and Camelia streets. Several guns and ammunition were found in Dowling's vehicle, and he is currently being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail. This marks the fourth homicide in Berkeley this year, with three involving firearms. Dowling's arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.
