Wayanad Landslides Death Toll Rises to 167
Heavy rainfall has caused significant disruptions in Delhi and Uttarakhand, leading to school closures and severe waterlogging. Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced the closure of all schools on Thursday due to forecasts of continued heavy rains, with multiple areas experiencing severe flooding and traffic snarls. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red warning for Delhi and an orange alert for Uttarakhand, predicting heavy rainfall until August 5. In Wayanad, Kerala, landslides triggered by heavy rains have resulted in 167 deaths and over 200 injuries, prompting relief efforts from celebrities and political figures. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan refuted claims that the State had prior warning of the calamity, citing unexpected rainfall levels. Meanwhile, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has formed a committee to address issues in waterlogging-prone areas, including regulating coaching centers following recent flooding incidents.
